About four years ago Coca-Cola went to Emeco with a proposal to make the classic Navy chair out rPET (Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate- recycled plastic bottles). Their new recycling plant in South Carolina was processing thousands of plastic bottles a day and they were looking for ways to show the value of recycled plastic with beautifully designed products – ultimately encouraging more recycling. Everywhere else in the world people recycle about 80% of their bottles while in the US we recycled only about 20%.

Requiring a state-of-art mold, the new 111 Navy Chair™ includes the original stretcher (structural brace) below the seat to assure authenticity as well as creating great structural integrity. The 111 Navy Chair™ is made from 65% (111 PET bottles) recycled PET and 35% glass fiber. The 111 Navy chair passes California and UK Fire Codes, along with BIFMA structural testing for commercial use. Suitable for outdoor use.
